City Overview:
Grain Valley, "What A Place To Grow!", is not only part of
the City's logo, but a real part of the success and continuing
growth of our community. Grain Valley is currently ranked
the third fastest growing community in the Metro area. The
population of Grain Valley increased 109% from 1990 to 1998.
In a recent publication Grain Valley was ranked fourth in
population growth in the state of Missouri. Grain Valley anticipates
the population has grown by a third since 1998 with an estimated
population of 7,200 in the year 2000. Grain Valley still maintains
its "small town feel".
Location:
Grain Valley is located 25 miles east of downtown Kansas City
toward the eastern edge of Jackson County. The majority of
the city is situated on the south side of Interstate 70 with
continued growth on the north side as well as south of AA
Highway.
Grain Valley has the best of both worlds. It has big city
convenience with small town atmosphere and friendliness. We
are only 20 minutes from downtown Kansas City, so going to
KC for business is quick and easy, but why fight the traffic
everyday when there is no need to?
East Kansas City airport, located in Grain Valley, can accommodate
all categories of private and corporate aircraft. This airport
includes a 4,501 foot lighted, hard surface runway. For further

Value:
In this era of faceless corporations and bureaucratic municipal
governments it is difficult to feel at home, but you and your
business will find a feeling you thought lost in today's business
world. You will be treated with respect and work directly
with municipal decisions makers, not bureaucrats. Our Chamber
of Commerce Logo says it all... "Small Town Attitude, Big
Town Success"
City Administration:
Grain Valley is a Fourth Class city as defined by the Missouri
Senate Statute. The governing body consists of a mayor and
six member who serve as the Board of Aldermen. Each of these
positions are elected to a two year term. Three of the six
aldermen are elected at the same time as the mayor with the
remaining members of the board being selected during the off
year election. The city administrator is appointed by the
Board of Aldermen to handle daily administrative duties of
the city.
Police Department:
The Grain Valley Police Department's operational control is
the responsibility of the Chief of Police. The Department
has eleven full-time officers and clerical support. In addition
to the full-time positions, the Department has a reserve program
to supplement its personnel which ensures that an officer
is on duty 24 hours a day. The 24 hour coverage provides our
citizens with timely response to any call for service or request
for assistance they may have. The Police Department also has
a DARE program, Certified K-9 Unit, Investigative Unit and
Crime Prevention Programs which provide service to both residential
and business "customers" within our community. The Department's
personnel is committed to beliefs of "Community Oriented Policing"
and involvement with its citizens. The Police Department is
located downtown at 711 Main Street. (816) 847-6250.
